The human heart beats approximately 100,000 times a day and about 35 million times in a year. Each of these beats begins with an electrical impulse within the heart's own electrical system called the conduction system. Abnormal heart rhythms, also called arrhythmias or dysrhythmias, are heartbeats that are too fast, too slow, and/or conducted via an abnormal electrical conducting pathway.
