Hematology / Oncology Inpatient Care at Prentice

Located on the 15th and 16th floors of the Prentice Women’s Hospital, medical oncology and hematology inpatients receive the most advanced care from their physicians through the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

This state-of-the-art facility was developed with the patient in mind. The two inpatient floors devoted to cancer care have been created to support physicians and other caregivers as they work to address some of the challenges and concerns cancer patients face. They will benefit from special amenities that respond to their comfort and medical needs such as:

  • Private, Family-Friendly Rooms
Window views, comfortable furnishings and separate family and caregiver areas in each patient room will provide added privacy and comfort. In addition, hospital information, health education, Internet access, television, movies and games are accessible in each patient room through a large,flat-screen television.

  • On-Demand Room Service
Nutritional plans will be supported by on-demand room service and a meal delivery schedule tailored to individual patient needs. This will offer greater flexibility and support for patients undergoing cancer diagnostics and treatment procedures. Meals may be selected from the room service menu when it best fits into their day.

  • Rehabilitation Satellite
Recognizing that cancer patients often experience fatigue and loss of strength during treatment, an on-unit rehabilitation gym will provide exercise space and equipment needed to maintain and improve strength and endurance during inpatient treatment and care.

  • Patient Education and Recreation
Dedicated space is provided for patient and family education and recreation. A wide range of programs are offered for education, entertainment and therapy including recreation therapy, massage therapy and a variety of educational support programs.

  • Inpatient Dental Office
A dental office located on the 16th floor specifically will address any dental needs that arise during inpatient cancer treatment. Patients should continue to go to their personal dentist for routine dental care.

  • Outpatient Cancer Care and Surgical Procedures
Cancer patients may undergo outpatient procedures, diagnostics and surgical procedures in either the new Prentice or in the Feinberg and Galter pavilions. When scheduling a treatment or procedure, they will be given specific information about location.
