NUgene Project
The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital believes that genetic factors may play a role in the cause of cardiac and vascular disease. Because of this belief, the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute encourages you to consider participating in the NUgene Project.

The NUgene Project is a genetic (DNA) study that seeks to understand the role that human genes play in the development and treatment of diseases such as cardiac and vascular disease. Sponsored by the Center for Genetic Medicine at Northwestern University in partnership with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, the goal is to enroll 100,000 participants by the year 2010. Participants must be 18 years of age or older and receive their medical care from a Northwestern-affiliated provider. Participants receive no compensation other than knowing that their contribution may help physicians understand the causes and how to better treat many diseases.

Participation in NUgene can be done through a one-time contact with a research coordinator in which participants are asked to:

  • Sign a consent and HIPPA authorization form
  • Donate a single sample of blood (about one tablespoon)
  • Complete a self-administered questionnaire

You can enroll in NUgene at your next visit to a Northwestern physician. For more information, contact NUgene today!
